The Montreal Model Train Exposition started in 1988, for Sun Youth.  Ivan Dow ran the show from 1989 to the year 2000, with up to two shows per year, the shows were held at the Hippodrome ( horse racing track ), Marché Bonsecours in old Montreal and the Sun Youth Organization building at 4251 St. Urbain, to a great success. After stopping doing the show in 2000 because of a young family to look after, the show slowly died a sad death. With no show in Montreal, Ivan decided it was time to try to bring the show back to life. A year and a half was spent contacting  old dealers, layout, and displays. The hardest part was to bring back the confidence, that this was going to be as good show as it was in the 1990’s. In 2014, as a result of a lot of work and travel the show was back to its old glory, with over 30 layouts to see, displays historical groups, new and used equipment for sale etc…etc… three floors full, at the old Baron Bing high school,  now Sun Youth.

In 2018, Sun Youth had to relocate and space was no longer available for the model train exposition. Ivan would not give up and finally succeded in making arrangements for the exposition to be held in the Dorval Arena as of May 2019.

L’Exposition de trains miniatures de Montréal a vu le jour en 1988. Ivan Dow fut responsable de l’exposition entre les années 1989 et 2000. L’exposition connut un grand succès. Il y avait jusqu’à deux expositions par an, à l’Hippodrome, au Marché Bonsecours dans le Vieux Montréal ainsi qu’au Centre de Jeunesse au Soleil situé au 4251 St-Urbain. Après 2000, suite au départ d’Ivan désirant consacrer plus de temps à sa petite famille l’exposition s’éteint. Étant donné qu’il n’y avait plus d’exposition à Montréal,  Ivan décida qu’il était temps de redonner vie à l’exposition. Ivan consacra un an et demi d’effort pour contacter les anciens vendeurs et exposants de maquettes, réseaux et dioramas. Le plus difficile fut de les convaincre que cette exposition allait redevenir tout aussi populaire que dans les années 90. En 2014, l’exposition repris ses lettres de noblesse avec plus de 30 réseaux, maquettes et dioramas, groupes d’historiens, matériel neuf et usagé répartis sur trois étages etc…etc…  dans le vieux bâtiment du Baron Bing High School,  abritant Jeunesse au Soleil.

En 2018, Jeunesse au Soleil dut se relocaliser et l’exposition ne pouvait plus se tenir à cause du manque d’espace. Qu’à cela ne tienne, Ivan n’abandonne pas et parvient à obtenir une entente pour organiser l’exposition à l’Aréna Dorval à compter de mai 2019.
